Color Correction

Why color grade footage?

There are two main reasons you should color grade footage.

Number one continuity. If the project was shot on different cameras or different periods of the day were the color temperature is not the same then it would be wise to correct the issue and have even color continuity throughout your shots by color grading your footage to match each other.

Number two is simple. You grade your footage to achieve a stylized look. It would be best if you considered the emotions you want to transmit, and style of the video or sequence before beginning your grade.

How do we color grade?

We break it down into two phases — primary and secondary grading. On the primary stage, we adjust the color and exposure as a whole. We even out all the clips within the timeline to have proper highlights, mid-tones, and shadows. On the secondary stage, we go back and fix specific issues, for example, an underexposed face or a blown out window. We color grade by using an assortment of digital tools within the color grading suite such as RGB curves, masks, color scopes, mattes, power windows, and many others.

By understanding your concept and video needs, a colorist at ReyFilm will construct a specific mood for your video by using blend modes, saturation, exposure, and color manipulation.
